Not a Typical Zombie Movie

In theaters now...

I'm not really a big fan of zombie movies. Truth is I'm not even interested to watch any zombie movies. But on Thursday, I read a movie review in The Sun about "Zombieland" written by Chan Soo Wah. It goes like this:

"This horror comedy focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies.

Columbus (Eisenberg) is a coward but he proves that when one is afraid of being eaten by zombies, that very fear keeps one alive. Tallahassee (Harrelson) is a zombie-slaying guy who loves eating Twinkies.

When they join forces with Wichita (Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they have to determine which is worst - relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.

The film is downright funny right from the beginning. This has to be one of the funniest movies of 2009 with really witty dialogue. The momentum is kept up throughout and the flashbacks fit well into the current scenes.

The zombies are scary but watching Columbus trying to escape from them is hilarious. Columbus and his rules on how to survive will also crack you up every now and then while Harrelson is really funny as the macho but Twinkie-loving man.

With two Academy Award nominees in the film, you can expect some really good acting.

Breslin also proves that she can do well in a comedic role too. You never expect to see her holding a gun and threatening the two men so convincingly! Stone also plays a convincing femme fatale who has trust issues.

The best part of the film has to be the cameo by a famous funnyman but I will not spoil the fun and tell you who. You will just have to find it out yourself.

If you are looking for a good horror comedy to watch during the weekend, this is it."

Yup, after reading the above review, I immediately asked Ita to come and watch the movie with me on weekend. And the weekend is today.

Some scenes, especially when there are zombies around, are totally gross and violent. But, I can tolerate that even though there are times when I've to grip the chair's armrests or watch the scenes by peeking through my fingers. Haha...so scary but yet so funny.

What can I say? Chan Soo Wah is wrong! The film is not one of the funniest movies of 2009, it IS the funniest movie of 2009. No, no...it is the best film of 2009 (sorry, Star Trek...huhu...). Period.

So go watch it...if you are 18 and above, that is. And, oh, please don't bring food inside the movie theater. There's a chance that you won't eat it. Poor Ita she only half eaten her kuih when there is a gory scene in the beginning of the movie.
